Breaking Barriers and Building a More Equitable Future: Insights for International Women’s Day 2025
Anusha Konathala
|March 7, 2025
As we celebrate International Women’s Day, it’s a moment to reflect on the progress made toward gender equity and the challenges that remain. This year, I want to share my perspective on the trends that will shape the professional landscape for women, the hurdles faced during workforce reintegration after maternity leave, and the invaluable advice that has guided my career.

1. The Defining Trend for Gender Equity in 2025
The coming year will see a significant shift toward pay transparency and equitable opportunities. Many organizations are moving beyond performative gestures and taking concrete steps to close the gender pay gap. With increased awareness and legal frameworks demanding transparency, companies will need to provide fair pay structures, equal access to leadership roles, and unbiased hiring practices. Additionally, AI-driven hiring and skill-based job assessments will help eliminate unconscious bias, ensuring that women receive opportunities based on merit rather than gender stereotypes.
Moreover, there is a rising focus on inclusive workplace cultures that prioritize mentorship programs for women, leadership development, and stronger DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) initiatives. Organizations that invest in creating equal opportunities will not only retain top talent but also foster a more innovative and productive workforce.
2. The Challenges of Workforce Reintegration After Maternity Leave
One of the biggest challenges women face when returning to work post-maternity leave is the lack of flexibility and adequate support systems. Many struggle with outdated workplace policies, limited childcare support, and the stigma of career gaps. To create an inclusive work environment, organizations must:
Implement progressive parental leave policies that normalize paternity leave reducing the caregiving burden on mothers..
Offer hybrid and flexible work arrangements to ease the transition for working mothers.
.Provide mentorship and upskilling programs to help women regain their professional momentum without fear of being left behind..
Establish on-site childcare facilities or reimbursement programs to reduce logistical challenges for parents..
Foster a culture of empathy and inclusion where returning mothers are supported rather than penalized for their time away from work..
3. The Best Career Advice I Ever Received
A female mentor once told me, “Your voice is your power—never let anyone silence it.” This advice has shaped my journey, pushing me to speak up for what I believe in, advocate for gender equity, and empower other women in professional spaces. Whether it’s negotiating salaries, challenging biases, or supporting fellow women in their career growth, the power of our voices cannot be underestimated.
Another piece of wisdom that has stayed with me is “Lift as you climb.” As women progress in their careers, it’s essential to create pathways for others to follow. Mentorship, sponsorship, and advocacy are key to ensuring that success is shared and sustained across generations of women professionals.
4. The Women Who Inspire Me
My journey has been deeply influenced by two remarkable women —my mother and Sudha Murty the esteemed author, philanthropist, and former chairperson of Infosys Foundation.
My mother has been my pillar of strength, demonstrating resilience, hard work, and compassion in every aspect of life. Her unwavering belief in my potential has encouraged me to dream big and break barriers.
Sudha Murty’s journey has been equally inspiring. As a trailblazer in the tech industry and a powerful advocate for education and social change, she has shown how women can lead with grace, intelligence, and an unyielding commitment to making a difference. Her dedication to empowering underprivileged communities and fostering education has been a guiding light for me.
A Call to Action
As we celebrate this International Women’s Day, let’s commit to creating an inclusive, equitable, and empowering future for all women. Whether you’re an employer, a colleague, or an ally, your actions can make a difference. Let’s champion policies that uplift women, foster a culture of support, and break barriers that hinder progress.
